Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of linguistic strategies in the expression of requests in English, Kazakh, and Russian. The purpose of this study is a comprehensive study and comparison of linguistic approaches to the expression of requests in English, Russian and Kazakh languages. For a comparative analysis, 150 (50 sample sentences for each language) sample sentences expressing requests were used. The article provides a cross-cultural analysis by identifying universal and culturally specific aspects of linguistic strategies for expressing requests in three languages. As a result of the analysis, both similarities and differences in the use of the strategy of expressing request were revealed.  According to the results of the analysis, the English and Kazakh language cultures are prone to indirect requests which reflects the desire to avoid pressure on the interlocutor. While in Russian, direct forms are acceptable in an informal setting, but there is a tendency to use indirect constructions to preserve politeness.
