This article examines modal verbs and their equivalents in English, as well as their features and semantic differences from each other, and the meanings they convey. In addition, the methods of their translation, which pose a number of difficulties in translation work for the Kazakh-speaking audience due to the absence of a category of modal verbs in the Kazakh language, are analyzed with examples and the methods of their translation into Kazakh are analyzed through examples. As a result of the analysis of the examples of modal verbs in English and the methods of their translation into Kazakh, it is shown that, depending on the meaning they convey, they are translated into Kazakh using auxiliary modal words and by adding suffixes of the Subjunctive mood to the predicate of the sentence
