Abstract

This article examines the role of thematic English proverbs in teaching English as a reflection of the cultural life of a nation. Proverbs are considered important linguistic and cultural units that preserve collective wisdom, moral values, and national worldview. The study analyzes how thematic proverbs related to family, work, friendship, education, and health contribute to the development of learners’ communicative competence and intercultural awareness. The article demonstrates that proverbs function not only as stylistic expressions but also as authentic teaching materials that enrich vocabulary, improve speaking skills, and develop critical thinking. Special attention is given to the thematic organization of proverbs, which facilitates contextual learning and helps students connect language with real-life experiences. In addition, the study highlights the importance of comparative analysis between English and native-language proverbs in promoting intercultural competence. The findings show that integrating thematic English proverbs into language teaching enhances cultural understanding and supports more meaningful and communicative language learning.
